Navigation Pane of the Modeling Workbench

The navigation pane can be found on the left-hand side of the Modeling Workbench. With the navigation pane, you can browse your content and find the items that you need.

The navigation pane consists of the following sections:

  1. Search: Enter your search term here. The results will be displayed in the details pane. For more information about searching in the Modeling Workbench, see Searching.

  2. Click WB_icon_collapse_nav to expand or collapse the navigation pane.

  3. Navigation mode: In this section, you can select whether you want to navigate inside the Modules, the Object Types, the Transformations, the Configuration Extensions, or the Help Texts. The content of the navigation tree changes depending on the navigation mode that you select.

    • Modules - Select this mode to maintain the object model definition. The navigation tree displays the modules and the items it contains. Select a module, object type, object type extension, or base config to view or edit.

    • Object Types - Select this mode to see how a specific object type is built up by the different modules. The navigation tree displays models and object types. The highest level of the tree consists of all the models in the system. If you expand a model in the tree, you can see the object types it contains. Expanding an object type displays all the modules that affect it.

    • Transformations - Select this mode to configure the data that must be extracted from SAP. Select a module to edit or add tables and fields.

    • Configuration Extensions - Select this mode to see an overview of all entities (modules or object types) for which extensions can be configured (Configuration Extensions) for a selected model. The overview shows a list of all relevant entities and the extensions that are supported for each entity. Clicking on an icon will open the corresponding extension configuration page.

    • Help Texts - Select this mode to edit the help texts and corresponding glossaries.

    • Committed Model - Select this mode to see the files after a commit has been successfully completed.

  4. Navigation tree: In this section, your Modules, Object Types, Transformations, or Help Texts are presented as a tree-structure.

Searching in the Navigation Pane

You can search your content in the navigation pane. You can search for texts in the properties of all available models and their child objects. The search text must be at least three characters long. The search covers model definition objects (module, object type (extension) and base config), transformation content, and help texts.

Search results

The search results are displayed in the details pane, sorted by model first, then by content type (standard content or customer content), then by activation state, and finally by category. They can be presented on module (Object Types, Object Type Extensions Base Config and Transformations will be grouped) and on help text level. Use the drop-down lists at the top to filter and refine your search results.

Each search result shows the namespace of the module the item was found in. It also lists the properties and values in which the search text can be found. The search results that you can see depend on model authorization. Help text results are shown only when both active and inactive content is shown. Search results are limited to the first 1000 items.

If you click on a search result, you will navigate to the actual content page of that item. If the search result is an ini text with a go to link, you will be redirected to the content in the content editor.

Find and Replace Customer Content

You can use the search panel to replace words or phrases in the customer content. When you search for a text in the Search panel, the search results contain both Customer and Standard Content. You can replace text in Customer Content, if you have access to the specific module. Standard Content cannot be edited.

To replace text in Customer content, do the following:

  1. Search for the text to be replaced. The search results along with the following filters are displayed.

  2. Tip: All Customer Content has a check box next to it. You can also select Customer Content in the Content filterto filter out the Customer content

  3. Select the check box for the instances of the text that must be replaced. To select all instances, select the check box at the top of the list.

  4. In the Replace with box, enter the text that you want.

  5. Click Apply.

    All instances of the searched text get replaced with the new text.
