Using Ask at Execution

Note:

This functionality is only available if you have sufficient privileges. Your privileges are maintained by your system administrator in the IT Management Console.

With Ask at Execution, you can apply a filter dynamically during execution of an Angle or Dashboard. You can set Ask at Execution filters on Angles, Displays and Dashboards.

To set up Ask at Execution

  1. Execute the Angle or Dashboard to which you want to add an Ask at Execution filter. The Angle results page or Dashboard results page opens.

  2. To add an Ask at Execution filter to the entire Angle, click the Angle tab on the Details pane (Angle).

To only add an Ask at Execution filter to one of the Displays, click the Display details (Angle) tab on the Details pane (Angle).

To add an Ask at Execution filter to the Dashboard, click the Dashboard tab on the Details pane (Dashboard).

  3. In the Filters & Jumps section, click WC_Create_New_Display_Icon. The Choose field dialog box opens.

  4. Select the filter that you want to Ask at Execution from the list.

  5. Click OK. The filter is added to the Filters & Jumps section.

  6. Edit the filter properties.

  7. Select Set value when the Angle is executed, Set value when the Display is executed or Set value when the Dashboard is executed.

  8. In the Action bar, save the Angle, Display, or Dashboard.

The Ask at Execution filter is added to the list of filters.

Tip: You can recognize Ask at Execution filters by the WC_Execution_Lightning next to their name.

On the next execution of the Angle or the Dashboard, a dialog box appears, requesting a value for the filter. If you change the default value of the Ask at Execution filter during Angle or Dashboard execution, the Ask at Execution icon (WC_Execution_Lightning) next to the filter name will be yellow instead of grey. This indicates that the entered value is an ad hoc value, and that it will not be remembered for the next execution. You can edit the Ask at Execution filter to change the default value (see Editing a filter in an Angle, Editing a filter in a Display or Editing a filter in a Dashboard).
